BIG BAND HROŠČI is a group of young musicians which has been active for seven years ago in the framework of Marezige Youth Association. Their very beginnings go back to the summer of 2003 when a small group of musicians with a common desire for playing a different style of music decided to start rehearsing the jazz standards. In their short history, the Big Band Hrošči have performed under the lead of Karlo Glavina in Slovenia as well as abroad and acquired new skills in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The group is actively promoting the development of big band music in Slovenia and has thereby acquired the title of the »house band« of the MareziJazz Festival.

TVRDOKORNE MRLJE so instrumentalna jazz zasedba ustanovljena konec leta 2009 v okviru pihalnega orkestra Lovran. Iz neformalnega muziciranja treh članov orkestra (Franjo Črnarić - saksofon, Josip Rubinić - trobenta in Leo Škec - kitara) se je razvila ideja o zasedbi, ki bi igrala jazz, blues in funky glasbo. Svoje načrte so uresničili s pomočjo Edija Lazarića - bobni, Vanje Vitezića - tolkala ter Marina Juričića - bas kitara. Sekstet je v kratki zgodovini nanizal nastope na več festivalih (OP-Art na Volskem, MUFić v Mošćenicah, Konti do Masmalić na Cresu) in jazz klubih (Jazz Tunel, Reka in P-14, Pula). Prepoznavi želijo biti po jazzu v moderni preobleki, kjer sta koletkivno muziciranje in uigranost benda pred individualnimi improvizacijami, aranžmaji in zvok so bogati, stilske prepreke pa ne obstajajo.

JAZZ PUNT BIG BAND was established in 2005 in Tolmin by Matija Mlakar. Its name pays a tribute to the group's home town which is known for one of the biggest peasants' revolts in the history of Slovenia dating back to 1713. The »big band with a soul«, as they like to call themselves, has not only had many concerts in Slovenia but has also taken part in the Festival of Brass Orchestras and Ensembles in Spain (2006) and the 10th International Festival of Youth Orchestras in Thessaloniki, Greece (2007). |

| BIG BAND RTV SLOVENIJA is one of the biggest big bands in the world and has been active since 1945. Their establishment and beginnings are mostly due to one of the biggest composers and conductors in the Slovenian history, Bojan Adamič. In 1961, the young and exceptionally talented Jože Privšek took over the lead of the then-called Orchestra of the Radio of Ljubljana (PORL) and took it to the very top of professional international big band performers. During his time, the orchestra changed its name into Big Band RTV Ljubljana and after Slovenia's independence into Big Band RTV Slovenija. In 1992, after Jože Privšek's retirement, the conduct of the big band orchestra taken over by Lojze Krajnčan. Many visiting conductors cooperated with Big Band RTV Slovenija such as Petar Ugrin, Mirko Lazar, Emil Spruk and others. Leading foreign jazz soloists take it as their honour to play with the Big Band RTV Slovenija and come to Ljubljana as special guests. Lately, the big band has acquired many new and young members and the artistic lead has been taken over by Hugo Šekoranja. |

BIG BAND CERKNICA's informal beginnings can be traced back to the spring of 2002. Twenty young musicians, led by a trumpet player Igor Matkovič, have in addition to many regular concerts also performed at the 10th anniversary of Radio 94 in Postojna, during Henks'n'fest in Cerknica and together with Cerknica Jazzero. They have cooperated with well-known Slovenian singers such as Nuša Derenda, Oto Pestner, Jadranka Juras, Iva Stanič, Eva Hren, Teja Saksida, Rebeka Hren and Mate Brodar. |

| BIG BAND DOM (Dobrepolje Youth Orchestra) was established in 2002 at the initiative of Braco J. Doblekar. In addition to their rich history of cooperation and many performances in Gajo Jazz Club in Ljubljana, the Big Band Dom performed three times at the occasion of awarding the Sportsperson of the Year in Cankarjev dom in Ljubljana, a New Year's concert at Mestni trg in Ljubljana, a performance in the Slovenian Parliament, a concert at the occasion of opening of the renovated statue of Prešeren at Prešernov trg in Ljubljana and many others. In December 2008 they released their first jazz album called Doin' Basie's Thing and a year later their second album Moj Piran in cooperation with the jazz singer Nina Strnad. |

BIG BAND NOVA iz Nove Gorice deluje od leta 1996 in lahko zahvaljujoč svojemu raznovrstnemu repertoarju postreže vsem vrstam glasbenega okusa. Pohvalijo se lahko s številnimi avtorskimi kompozicijami njihovega dirigenta, Anžeta Vrabca, ki je taktirko prevzel v letu 2009, in saksofonista Boštjana Simona, s katerimi se bodo predstavili na letošnjem MareziJazzu. Poleg sodelovanja s številnimi slovenskimi znanimi glasbeniki so njihovo zgodovino zaznamovale tudi visoke nagrade iz mednarodnih tekmovanj v Italiji in Švici, veliko pa gradijo tudi na mednarodni glasbeni koheziji s svojo udeležbo na priznanih festivalih in sodelovanjem z drugimi big bandi po Evropi. |

Projekt je nastal leta 2007 kot ideja bobnarja in skladatelja Andreja Pirjevca, z namenom prenesti predvsem avtorske skladbe v kontekst trio zasedbe, ki se je kasneje razširila na kvartet ob tem pa obdržala ime THE OPEN TRIO. Projekt temelji na ustvarjanju zvočne slike, ki je zaradi drugačne teksture zvoka specifična, saj ob pomankanju bas kitare naredi glasbo še bolj izvirno in odprto, na kar namiguje že samo ime zasedbe. Leta 2009 se je skupina prvič predstavila javnosti v znanem Londonskem klubu The Blag Club, kjer je s svojim nastopom navdušila in pokazala, da ima še veliko povedati. V začetku novembra 2010 je izšel prvenec tega projekta, ki odlično združuje vse faze razvoja skupine glasbenikov v vseh letih ustvarjanja. |

| BIG BAND VOX is a newly established group of musicians who gathered in June 2010 with the goal of spreading jazz music in their home town Velenje. The members of the band come from different places but are all in one way or another connected to Velenje. The band plays without a conductor but already has a track record of performances in classical as well as jazz music concerts. |

Mlada in izkušena glasbena zasedba ŠPIČIKUC ORCHESTRA comes from the village of Sv. Peter near Piran and has since its creation in 2000 had many performances of which the most important were the concert at the occasion of the Slovene cultural holiday, their tour of Norway and performance at the Najsfest 2007 Festival, at the Festival Lent in 2008 and at MareziJazz. This Big Band, which is well known for their interesting and various arrangements, marked its 10th anniversary last year in the Auditorium of Portorož and works with conductor and flautist Gordana Buh. |

The Cultural Society BIG BAND WONDERBRASS from Logatec was established in 2009 and is composed by young talented musicians from Logatec and its environs. Their first public appearance was at the MarteziJazz Festival in 2009 and in the same year they performed three times in Slovenia and made a guest appearance in France. The big band is led by Brank Mrak, who likes to choose a wide and attractive repertoire full of various genres. |

BIG BAND VRHNIKA was created in 1995 at the initiative of Jože Jerina, who was also the conductor of the group at the very beginning. In 1998 they recorded their first album That's Life and in the same year the conductor's position was taken over by a member of Big Band RTV Slovenija, Tomaž Grintal. Big Band Vrhnika successfully cooperated with many famous Slovenian musicians such as Eva Hren, Katarina Habe, Mia Žnidarič, Ditka Haberl, Hugo Šekoranja and many others. In 2002, they released the album Rhythm Jazz Blues and a year later the Big Band Vrhnika 2003. In 2007 a new conductor Matjaž Albreht brought with him a new vision and élan. |

| BIG BAND KRŠKO started with their independent work in 1994 when the conduct of the band was taken over by Aleš Suša. Being at the very top of Slovenian amateur dance orchestras, this big band is composed of musicians from Krško and wider Posavsko. The band plays different styles of music such as dance, swing and latino but also fusion, funk and jazz rock. They put special focus on modern jazz music, which is closest to the youth. |

Orkester JAZZ IN TI BIG BAND je bil ustanovljen konec leta 2009 na pobudo članov, ki v večini prihajajo iz Pihalnega orkestra rudarjev Idrija in deluje sedaj neprekinjeno leto in pol. Prvi big band orkester je v Idriji začel delovati kmalu po 2. svetovni vojni, v osemdesetih letih prejšnjega stoletja pa je z igranjem prenehala zadnja zasedba plesnega orkestra. Današnji Jazz in Ti Big Band tako po tridesetih letih nadaljuje z big bandovsko tradicijo, ki je bila pred mnogimi leti v Idriji dokaj dobro razvita. Orkester je v dobrem letu in pol pripravil dva samostojna koncerta, dvakrat pa se je udeležil revij pihalnih orkestrov. Njihove želje so, da bi se orkester čimbolj kvalitetno razvijal ter da bi se uspešno predstavljal tudi drugod po Sloveniji. |

| Vsi člani zasedbe LOVRO RAVBAR QUARTET so šolani jazzisti. Poleg vodje Lovrota so člani zasedbe pianist Erik Marenče, kontrabasist Matej Hotko in bobnar Janez Gabrič. Gra za trenutno eno najbolj svežih domačih jazzovskij zasedb, saj ima vse: energijo, znanje, uigranost, veselje, predanost, igrivost, radovednost, barvo in ritem. Lovro Ravbar še zdaleč ne prisega le na en glasbeni slog in poleg igranja tudi poučuje, komponira in producira. Je dobitnik nagrade Jazzon 2004 (najboljša jazz kompozicija), ustanovni član Leeloojamais in The fool cool orchestra, član Big Banda RTVS, poleg tega pa deluje pa tudi v producentskem timu Club&Vehicle in Juicyjuice. Lovro Ravbar je trenutno pred izidom svojega albuma, jazz prvenca “Rush Hour”. |
